Vancouver Marathon--May 4th
I am not going to say much right now as I am still writing the story of the epic weekend I had in Vancouver a couple weeks ago. The main thing I have to say is that at around 18-19km into the marathon I fractured a bone in my right foot...which means I ran the remaining 23-24ish km on a broken foot. It was no bg deal to me at the time and is still no big deal to me now as the pain in my foot isn't even close to 1/10 of the pain I have had swirling throughout my body daily for over 14 1/2 years. When it happened during the race all I said to myself was, "Oh crap...now my feet are screwed...Oh well, just throw that onto the pile of everything else that's messed up..." and I kept goin' without breaking stride. I didn't realize it was broken until I got home the next night as I was in waaaay worse pain throughout the rest of me. As a result I have had to reshape my race season and take some time off. I don't start racing again until June 15th at Wasa Lake, which will be 6 weeks to the day that I got the fracture. I have a plan as to how to go about my healing, and return to racing, so for now I am looking at it like a 6 week guilt-free vacation. I will get in the pool next week, and I am going to rig up my bike so I can ride on my winter trainer with my big-ass walking cast on. Here is a photo that was taken of me for a story that is going to appear in the Nelson Daily News tomorrow, as well as two others with my close friend's kids...
Me and Solomon...I gave my finisher's medallion to Sol...
Sol, me, Hailey... Hailey is who drew my logo for me. I can't even believe how amazing of a job she did for me... Hailey and Sol are my across the meadow neighbours.
